Hi,

Just a quick question, join pipex with activation on monday but need a modem router.

Question 1

Do i go for a Netgear 814 or Dlink 504?

Question 2
Whats this about port fowarding? I am not wanting to run any servers behind the router but i might want to use Messenger, Net meeting etc. Do they both support this? Will i need port fowarding for this?

Cheers

James

Either router should be fine. Most current router support Universal Plug n Play which should allow messages to go through with Messenger. For some advanced features of Messenger (like voice communication), you will need to do some port forwarding.

Port forwarding should only be needed if someone from the Internet side needs to connect to you. However, if you initiate the connections from behind yoour router running NAT, you will not need to forward ports.
