The outside part number on the box says its a FC4500. However during bootup connected via RS232 shows its a FC4400? I dont get it? What makes it a 4400 or 4500. How can I tell what is really is? Does the SP's basically deside on what model it is? Like if I put a FC4700 SP in my DPE would that make it a FC4700 then?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

The FC4400 Storage Processor is installed in an FC4500 Clariion.

What if I put two FC4700 SP in my 4500? would that make it a 4700?

Is the back plain different?
Thanks
Dave

I'd have to check to see if the slots are compatible and that it uses the same LCC. I can get back to you on that or perhaps someone else can answer the question more quickly.

You can upgrade an FC4500 to an FC4700. BUT the upgrade that EMC sold also included new power supplies. Not sure if it will just work, or if you are likely to burn out your old power supplies due to excess power consumption.

If you can score a pair of PS to throw in the DPE, you will be in better shape.

I did the FC5400->FC4500 upgrade but the FC4700's are dual PIII's in each slot vs a little PowerPC. Oh, yeah, and a hard drive too (grin)
