quick question about css

hi, i've been messing around with css for couple days and i'm wondering about this: in my style sheet, i have used negative numbers to position some things and was wondering if this is a bad idea somehow, or if it might possibly cause things to get funky...? as of now it seems to work..

I've never used negative numbers in my style sheets, but I have seen it used in a number of places, and they never had a problem with it...
For the most, it might cause a problem depending on the screen resolution... I have not failed; I have merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...
