Quick password no longer coming up (always)

The quick password prompt used to always appear when I turned it on. Now it rarely does and I'm upset because my regular password is 12 digits.
I've already shortened it to 12 digits and that's as far as I go. I am noticing that when I turn it off manually, the quick password screen is briefly appearing. The quick password screen does appear if I turn off/ turn on. Thanks for reading. Oh... never do a soft reset with the power off. <sigh>

I seem to have figured it out. If I set my auto lock handheld to "on power off" AND actually power it off before the auto shutoff kicks in... i am always prompted with the quick password. I can live with that. thanks for your time

Oh and one more thing I did was change the security options and increased the quick password delay time from 5sec to 10.
