Quick Layout/colors/design review

I'd look at:

1) Fixing the validation errors:

2) Getting rid of the two tables that hold the images (you can float the images next to each other instead)

3) Making the text color darker - it seems quite hard to read to me especially when the text gets smaller like in the footer.

4) Making the links in the "Our Work" section a more prominent color - again, these are quite hard to read.

Hi

Nice design, but there is a bit too many bla-bla on the top. The proper content begins at 325 pixel top position.

I would put the logo and slogan over the banner3.jpg forest photo. And/or I would make the menu smaller especially in width, and put the three thumbnails in the same line with the menu. Or just remove some of the white space between those top elements, because there is a total of 68 pixel high blank.

Feherke.

Yeah, you should probably make the text a little darker, you might also experiment with increasing the line-height a touch.

I'd make the main logo at the top a proper <img> rather than a background image. That way you can be sure it will come out if the page is printed, and you can enter alt text for those that need it.

I think the amount of whitespace is about right, you don't want the page looking too cramped.

I'd consider removing the three small images at the top altogether. They look like buttons leading to somewhere, but as far as I can make out they're just decorative.

feherke - can you comment on "too many bla-bla at the top" ?

I kind of get what you are saying, but agree with Chris in that the white space is about correct at this point.

Hi

Bla-bla for me is anything else then proper content. Although the logo and slogan in necessary bla-bla, for me is still bla-bla. Sorry for the confusing expression. So bla-bla would be the 70px high logo and thumbnails and 137px forest photo. And of course the considerably smaller slogan but with approximatively 400px*75px reserved space.

None of the mentioned is excessive, neither the white space. But I find that the way they are arranged eats up to much space, 325px at the top of the document. On my 1024*768 resolution the web pages appear on a 480px high area, so when the page loads, more than the half of what I see is bla... erh... auxiliary. ( Ok, I know other people arrange their desktop in other way... )

Reducing the white space was the second suggestion, the less effective. I would prefer moving the logo and slogan over the forest photo.

---fixed, good suggestion.

I just can't seem to get the CSS right for floating those images in the header.

feherke - thanks for expanding. I completely agree, but the client here has limited content, so I guess the space is available.

He also wanted a big image like that forest photo.

I think i'm going to cut back the height of that forest image slightly, perhaps by about 15% or so.

Thanks again for the feedback. It is appreciated.

I like the design, it fits well with the domain of tree-pruning and preservation. The navigation bar looks nice and the contrast works well when you hover over a navigation button.

When I first opened the page, banner3.jpg, didn't appear for at least several seconds (and I'm not using dialup!). See if you can optimize it without losing too much of the quality.

I agree with Chris, the 3 small images (top-right) look like links.

I agree with feherke, when viewed at 800x600, I only see down to the top-half of the "Welcome to Arbor Plant Health Care" heading. I would experiment with feherke's idea of moving banner3.jpg so that it sits at the top behind the logo and slogan.
