Hi all,
I need to add a third hdd to my K8N motherboard which current has an "E" backup drive in addition to my C drive. I've created a image of the current C drive with Acronis and what I would like to do is add the new hdd, restore the image to it, and then use what is now the current C drive as a backup, as well as the "current" backup drive for a total of three altogether.
What problems will I encounter when trying to boot to the new drive so I can restore the image, how do I set the jumpers on the current two drives, etc. ?
Thought I'd ask before I make a mess of things. Thanks for any info.
Btw they will all be IDE drives , not SATA.

Why do you need 2 backup HD's?

I am assuming you have created an Acronis Rescue CD that you will be booting off. If not, create it and ensure it boots properly before proceeding.

Remove your old C: drive and set the new drive to whatever your old C: drive is currently set for, most likely Master on the primary IDE channel.

The rest of the arrangement is up to you, but I would make the drive containing your Acronis image Master on the secondary IDE channel and your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive slave to it.

Leaving your old C: drive out of the mix, boot your Acronis CD and restore your image. Boot from the new drive. Once you are sure everything is working, add your old C: drive as Slave on the Primary and reformat it if desired.

Setting everything to Cable Select may make things easier. In that case, the Master drive will be placed at the end of the IDE cable, the Slave the middle connector.

Also be aware of drive letter assignments when your old C: drive is out of the mix then reintroduced later. They will likely change when the drive is added back in.

I have three, one resident, one external, one offsite. Freestone's procedure sounds perfect.
