Hi,

I have read articles on VPN but my questions still remain un answered.

I want to connect machines on different locations so that they behave like they are on the same LAN in a secure way of course. So that SSH to each other and data transfer would be easy. This is for remote administration and support.

Can this be done in VPN? Can it be done with out worrying about NAT?

I have 5 locations in a spoke and hub IPSEC topology, the head office has a server that all the remotes need to access and they sometimes need to print back to the head office.

Head Office - Linksys RV042 192.168.1.1 CableOne
Remote - Netopia 3347NWG 192.168.2.1 AT&T
Remote - Linksys RV042 192.168.3.1 Comcast
Remote - Netopia 3347NWG 192.168.4.1 AT&T
Remote - Linksys RV042 192.168.5.1 NetWireless

All remotes can see/be seen by 192.168.1.0 network, but not each other. If I added static routes through 192.168.1.1 at each end, then they could see each other. No computer has any special software, so I connect via IP addresses. With additional software, you could browse via network neighborhood, but broadcasts do not go through routers normally.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Form what i understood is if i add static routes then it is possible that computer can see each other through special software but will not be able to transfer data to each other?.

Will I be able to ssh through the terminal?

Also how is VPN different from Virtual LAN?

As I understand it, if I add static routes at the remote routers, then they can ping and transfer files by IP number.

VLAN subdivides your local network into more usable groups of users, VPN makes remote users look more local.

thank you i understand it now.
