When doing a mkdvd does the rootvg need to be unmirrored? Should it be unmirrored? Does it even matter?

In the past, I have not unmirrored and have not had any problems. A co-worker recently insisted that the rootvg needed to be unmirrored otherwise the mkdvd might not fit on the dvd.

If anyone has run into this and has more info or can point me to more info on this, it would be appreciated .

Your coworker is mistaken. For the same number of LPs, it doesn't matter how many PPs (twice as many for a simple mirror) there are when it comes to fitting the backup on a DVD.

What matters is the actually disk space in use in your rootvg filesystems.

Same as Rodknowlton you doesn't have to unmirror rootvg, then it would be dangerous to make a mksysb ... Strange situation

Thats pretty much what I thought - but it never hurts to recheck what you think you know every once in a while.

thanks for the info.

Just a thing, I think if you make an mksysb with rootvg mirrored, when it comes to restore you'll need to tell to install on 2 discs and it will recover already mirrored. Am I correct?

MoreFeo,

I believe you are correct. I'm fairly medicated (muscle relaxants) right now, though, so I'd give that about a 80% confidence rating. :)
