Questions before upgrading from 2000 to 2003 Server

I run two servers, both 2000 Server. At the moment, they are set up using DFS but I have been having problems with the first server.

I have an opportunity to upgrade it to 2003 server, which is fully licensed but unused (yes, illogical!). I haven't done it yet because One of the servers runs something called Smart Force, which is not compatible with 2003 server.

What I am worried is if one server is upgraded while the other remains 2k - will DFS, back up controller, etc still work correctly? Are there any implications to think about before going ahead with it?
