My shop has central datacenter currently running Netware 3.12 as a file server ONLY for approx 150 win2000 desktop clients in eight locations distributed as 30, 50, 30, 10, 10, 5, 5, 10
with the datacenter representing the 30.

All the users' home directories are on the Netware servers.

Desparately wanting to get rid of the Netware to shed its ipx/spx overhead, we've installed a NAS and a Win 2003 R2 server with Active Directory.

Hopefully we're on the right track so far. But, can one or both of you kindly advise as to how we can best approach the access permissions and control of these folders/files using AD?

Any pointers, references, links, suggestions will be really, really appreciated.

Thank you,

B

you cannot blame netware for the ipx imitation
3.12 hasnt been supported this milenium

all netware iplementation this milenium are pure ip

you havent really asked a question - what do you want to know

Well, truthfully, I am a long time Unix/Linux aficionado and very recently inherited this shop running Netware servers and Windows 2000 desktops.

I need to improve the overall network performance and one of the offending isues was the "old" netware ipx/spx implementation. As Netware is NOT anywhere in our near and future plans, I thought short term replacing it with a NAS using AD as access control would provide the most benefit with the least user impact.

So, my question is, can anyone provide some guidance and/or pointers relative to migrating Netware to AD/NAS as I've described? How does one provide the granularity of access control with the NAS using AD similar in control to what was provided via Netware???

Anyone?

Thanks
