I am not the best when it comes to WEB developement. So what is all the fuss about HTML 5? will it do away with .NET? or can it do everything that something like .NET will do? Or am I not understanding?

HTML 5 is a more advanced HTML. Has more features the browsers will be able to natively interpret and use and offers much more in terms of web design and media content display.

.Net like PHP, or even Coldfusion will still be the backbone for more complex programming required for web applications and database access.

HTML 5 will do away with most content plugins of today like Flash, Silverlight etc... as it will allow the native deployment of media in a web site.

The Server side languages like ASP, PHP etc... will still be there as they merely spit out the HTML 5 that the browsers will read and render just as they do now with HTML 4.

.NET I suppose will have to evolve an produce compliant HTML 5 code for the web applications.
