I am new at this so please excuse the question

I am going to use a mailing list script on my web site for my customers the list is quite large

The question is what way is there to send the list out without my isp banning me for sending out 5000 at a time ??

The scripts ask Path to sendmail: or or your SMTP server and port address:

What is the difference and will the isp see the mail going out on send mail ???

Not all systems use sendmail. If yours does, then just give it the path to sendmail. If you are using another mail server, either local or remote, it wants to talk to it via smtp protocol rather than from the command line.

oops - forgot to answer your other question. If you have your own mail server, your isp doesn't see your mail. Most providers will not let you pass bulk mail through their mail servers.
