Machines are running Windows 2000 pro Service pack 2 and Norton Antivirus version 2002 - also on the network is a Windows 98 machine.

Tried in the past Norton Personal Fire Wall 2003 and it damaged data and programs ---

Please any and all Ideas.

I'm a bit confused, what has the firewall got to do with VFP? Are you accessing data from a VFP app "outside" your firewall?

If you're getting file corruption under W2K, I'd first upgrade to SP3 - there were documented problems with file caching that SP2 only fixed on some configurations. I'd also check the configuration of NAV - make sure it isn't "Auto Protecting" any VFP file types (especially .DBF, .CDX and .FPT, but also .PRG, .H, .SCX, .SCT, etc.)
