Please advice me how to install Wordpad in my PC.Noticed that Wordpad not egzists in Start>Programs>Accessories.
Since now tryied following:
-In C:\Windows\Ad/Remove Windows Components ,there is no combox or Wordpad in "Accessories" to be checked
-In Windows installation CD, the same.
-In Windows.Inf/wordpad.inf>Right click on file>Install-no success
In C:/Program Files/Windows NT/Accessories>Folder is empty
Try Start>Run> Rundl32....Uninstall- to uninstall and reinstall Wordpad ,but Access denied.
Try to find some applicable advice by Google, without success.
I have Notepad running , but what is happend with Wordpad as accessory.
Thanks for any help

On my computer, the application is located here;
"C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe"
If it is there on yours, just create a shortcut, and put it in the relevant directory
ie C:\Documents and Settings\'Your Profile Name'\Start Menu\Programs
Note, the shortcut is NOT in the Accessories directory

Seems to reside here.

"%ProgramFiles%\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe"

Can you copy the file wordpad.exe from another machine and place it in the above location, click on the exe and see if it runs?

I have these 4 compressed files on my XP CD -

WORDPAD.CH_
WORDPAD.EX_
WORDPAD.HL_
WORDPAD.IN_

How to expand Windows XP files from the installation disk

As I mentioned in my post "%ProgramFiles%\Windows NT\Accessories\ is empty.
In my XP CD in I386, i have the same files as yours.
Should I expand only EX file and as destination locate "%ProgramFiles%\Windows NT\Accessories\ ?
If Yes, what's the next step, please.

Start, Run, cmd
cd \i386

expand WORDPAD.CH_ %windir%\Help\Wordpad.CHM
expand WORDPAD.EX_ %windir%\Wordpad.EXE
expand WORDPAD.IN_ %windir%\Inf\Wordpad.INF
expand WORDPAD.HL_ %windir%\Help\Wordpad.HLP

Then in:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

Add the new shortcut Wordpad:

Target: "%windir%\wordpad.exe"
Start In: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%

@bcastner,
Inserted my XP CD, follow your instructions , but received:
"Can't open input file:wordpad.ch_."
The same for all four files from your post.

Start, Run, CMD

drive_letter_of_cd:
cd \i386

expand WORDPAD.CH_ %windir%\Help\Wordpad.CHM
expand WORDPAD.EX_ %windir%\Wordpad.EXE
expand WORDPAD.IN_ %windir%\Inf\Wordpad.INF
expand WORDPAD.HL_ %windir%\Help\Wordpad.HLP

Then in:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

Add the new shortcut Wordpad:

Target: "%windir%\wordpad.exe"
Start In: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%

Sorry, you need to change from your C drive to the drive letter of your CD ROM drive.

My drive letter of cd is "F".
Try in different ways to tipe it (F), but the path can not be recognized .
Sorry but knowing the letter of my drive tipe how i should enter it.
Then when I should click "Enter" ( after each expand, or how)
Another question :
If we can dload content of Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories and past it in Accessories folder, the WORDPAD will work or not.

Just copying the files will not make it work. You are missing some shortcuts, for one thing.

With the XP CD in the drive:

Start, Run, CMD

expand F:\i386\WORDPAD.CH_ %windir%\Help\Wordpad.CHM
expand F:\i386\WORDPAD.EX_ %windir%\Wordpad.EXE
expand F:\i386\WORDPAD.IN_ %windir%\Inf\Wordpad.INF
expand F:\i386\WORDPAD.HL_ %windir%\Help\Wordpad.HLP

Note: you can copy and then paste the four lines above into notepad if you want instead of typing them. Open notepad and then paste the lines above. Then do a File, Save As, C:\fix_notepad.cmd

The do a Start, Run, c:\fix_notepad.cmd

Then in:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

Add the new shortcut Wordpad:

Target: "%windir%\wordpad.exe"
Start In: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%

Forgive me for sounding thick....but arrived only until:
Target: "%windir%\wordpad.exe"
Start In: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%
Namely according your instructions using Notepad creted in C: Windows NT Command Script file size 8 KB , then creted new shortcut Workpad in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories.
Please explain re Target and Start In ,what to do.

In this folder -
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

right-click a blank area and create a new shortcut via the Properties menu item "New".

Browse to Wordpad.exe, and follow the Wizard.

This will create a working shortcut for you.

You need to be an Administrator to access the All Users folder.

After you create the shortcut, you can right-click on that and via Properties have a look at the "Target" and "Start in" boxes. You will not need to change anything.

Thank you very much. Now in Star>Programs>Accessories I have Wordpad icon and I can open and start this program.Checked on Program Files>Windows NT>Accessories-it's still empty.

The folder "Program Files>Windows NT>Accessories" is empty on my computer too.

That is why I installed the various WordPad components where I found them installed on my (working) machine. And while my shortcuts refer to the above folder, I corrected them in your case.

Wordpad apparently now works as it should. You should be a happy man.
