I have a printer which settings indicate the printers handshaking is DTR/DSR. The com port this is connected to handshaking is set to Xon/Xoff. Are these two settings similar???

Problem I have is the printer appears to be missing the last bit of the print (rubbish is printed in stead).

No, they are different. xn/xf uses the serial data line to transmit the control signals, DTR/DSR uses separate handshaking wires.

It is very likely that the problem is caused by settings being wrong, especially on jobs that exceed the buffer capacity.
