Quick question,

When you take a full backup of a database and restore it on another server does it rebuild all the indexes during the restore process? or will the fragmentation that existed in the database prior to the backup come over to the new server?

Thanks,

In short no - or at least in SQL 2000 and SQL 2005.
A backup takes a page by page dump of the data, no rebuild or change of logical order, its a physical exercise only.
The same applies to statistics,

You should rebuild your indexes post your restore, or prior your backup.

hope this helps
