hey

i'm wondering why shoud I click on "Create Portal" if the SharePoint is a
portal by himself (I think so but mybee i'm wrong and that's the reason that
i'm asking this question...).
Do all this featurs like the wss and web parts belong to the "portal" or to
the SharePoint in general ?

Thank you all alot

Hello,

When you have installed SharePoint Portal Server you have to create a Portal. Installing SPS2003 does not automatically function as a portal. You can host up to 15 portals in an installation.

So basically when the installation is done, you have all the requirements to start building SharePoint Portals.

SPS2003 is built "on top" of WSS (it is a requirement for SPS). When you have the SPS2003 installed you will have both Portal and WSS functionality.

When it comes to the webparts you have some for WSS and some for SPS (keep in mind that SPS and WSS are two "different" products).

Regards,
Thomas
