We have a Cisco 2821 Voice Router, Call Manager 4.1 and Definity G3si. We are using 2 T1s in our PBX but only 1 D channel is in use, the other D channel is for failover (NFAS). As part of the migration to IPT, I am trying to connect the Definity to Cisco 2821 via the T1 Controller port but I can't seem to make the signaling group in the Definity work, it always says "out-of-service-NE".

My questions are:
1. Does it matter what kind of T1 signaling we have from Telco? I mean if we have the "conventional" T1 (23 B channels and 1 D channel) or this one that we have (2 T1s but only 1 D is in use), do I need to configure the DS1, Trunk Group and Cisco 2821 differently?
2. How do I connect the DS1 board to the T1 controller? If I use a normal RJ-45, what is the pinning requirement?

I've looked at Cisco for their documentation but there doesn't seem to be an appropriate document for our setup, can you please advise if you know of one? Thanks.

you need a t1 x-over

pins 1/2 to be flipped with 4/5

1 > 4
2 > 5

Then you also need to define a clock source, whether it be on the cisco side or the definity..

Thanks, BuckWeet.

The DS1 board is using a Telco 50-pin cable while the T1 controller VWIC in the router is an rj-48/rj-45. Where do pins 1, 2, 4 & 5 on the rj-45 connect in the 50-pin Telco cable?

Also, can I just connect my Definity G3si as ISDN PRI to Cisco MGCP Gateway if my Definity doesn't support QSIG? Sorry, additional question, thanks.

Yea you don't need QSIG to make it work..

What circuit pack do you have for the definity? is it a tn464?

as for the pin out, i'm not 100%.. but I think its pins 1,2,49 and 50.. You might look on google.. I've usually done this with the A120 integrated CSU.

You might want to try and get a TN464F or 464GP as they support echo cancellation..

On the Avaya Telco, the pinout is 22, 47, 23, 48. This is the Violet/Orange and the Violet/Green pairs.

Hope this helps,

Scott M.
