Hello,

My company uses a SonicWall PRO 2040 firewall. Recently, it has been decreed that all instant messaging software is now forbidden. In the long term, I am working on implementing a permanent software solution like Websense, SurfControl, etc, but in the interim I was wondering if there is any way for me to block the service(s) on my firewall? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have the IPS features enabled for your 2040, you can block instant messaging services categorically. Also, while not the best around, Sonicwall does offer content filtering, so you don't really need something else like websense unless you require the more advanced reporting features that it would bring to the table.
