Question - Problem -- SQL Server Backup Error 1

Hey gang,

I'm trying to backup a SQL Server 2000 database using the Enterprise Manager. I've done this before without problems. For some reason, when I'm trying to back it up on Friday it gives me an error:

"Cannot open backup device 'C:\file location'. Dvice error or device off-line. See SQL-Server error log for more details. Backup database terminating abnormally."

Obviously, my computer can access it's own C drive! Another database on the same service is backing up to the C drive just fine. I've fiddled a lil' bit with the settings on the backup wizard without result. Can anyone help?? Please??

the space left
the permissions on the file system
the hdd for failures or bad sectors
the mdf and ldf files can be read

Also, are you trying to append the backup to an existing file? If so, could the file be in use? For example, could an anti-virus program be checking the file when you try to do the backup?

That was a good suggestion. I made some changes to the Antivirus to prevent problems.

Thanks for your help! The problem was that I needed to delete some of the old backup locations on the device list that had gotten out of date. They were mapped to folders on my drive that were no longer there. Now everything is working great. Thanks again!!
