This is a cross post from the Sonicwall forum, but it seems to be dead. Also I am not sure if this is the right place to post this question, so let me start of by apologizing if this is mis-placed.

I need some direction and/or advice.

I am in the process of setting up VLANs in a network. There will ultimately be 4 VLANS, but for right now, I am going to start with just 2 - staff and guests. Most of the configuration is pretty straight forward with respect to setting up the VLANs except for the fact that I want to restrict the guest VLAN of all staff computers (known MACs). I don't want them trying to get around the filtering by logging onto the guest network.

Here is what I have:

Sonicwall NSA 3500 with Sonicwall content filtering
Netgear Layer 2 switches
Cisco 1200 series APs
Windows Server 2003 DHCP/AD controller

The plan is to have the SW take care of all the routing between the VLANs. DHCP for the known addresses will be handled by Server 2K3. The guest VLAN's IPs can be handed out by either Win2K3 or SW - either one...don't care.

What I would ultimately like is the following:

1) Guests would be restricted to the guest VLAN and not allowd to authenticate to anything else.
2) Staff wouldn't be allowed to authenticate to guest VLAN.
3) DHCP server would know the difference
4) Cost effective.

I was looking at putting in something like FreeNAC to do this, but is there alterntives I am missing? I would really apprecieate hearing any thoughts you guys have.

Thanks in advance for your help.
