Hello everyone !

I am interested maybe to upgrade my BCM400 R3.7 to 4.0,
But i would like to know some important things first !

I know this is now linux Based, i am used to use F:\Program Files\Nortel Networks\Voicemail\nvmutil flashtlk for manage or delete massive vm or other things.
i suppose this tool do not exist anymore in linux right ?

If i upgrade to 4.0, do all my Keycodes are lost ? or they will follow the upgrade ?

I see on ebay, BCM400 4.0 Drive remplacement. This can be more easy to buy a drive already 4.0 and just put it inside the BCM ? there is a way to recover Keycodes from 3.7 by that way ?

The main reason to upgrade to 4.0 is because i have now 1120e 1140e and i2007 wich i have now more than digital stations. 3.7 still work with them but not very good, the system seen them as i2002 i2004 and buttons alignement are not right. and some buttons is "Key Not yet implanted" and many other details about calls are not proper.

Thanks for Reading !

I wouldn't waste my time upgrading any version of BCM. Although I agree that the BCM was one of the best small systems ever developed, the reality is it is now a dead product and I wouldn't waste my money or time on one.....especially a 400.

If you want performance out of your Nortel stuff, you really should look at the Emetrotel UCX. If you've never heard of it, it is a direct replacement for all Nortel systems and was developed by some of the very same Nortel engineers that did the BCM and CS1K systems. All the sets you mentioned work even better on this system, you can keep your digital and analog sets plus you can add pretty much any SIP based IP set.

I could go on about it but do yourself a favor and go have a look at their website at

There is a way to upgrade your BCM to 4.0. It's a process that is known to a number of us, but it can't be discussed in detail on this forum. There are a number of benefits to upgrade, but as already suggested to go to a BCM 50/450 is a better option as release 6.0 can support sip trunks and remote worker etc.

Thanks all for your time and answering, yes indeed i think the best is to have a 450, and also emetrotel sell an SSD hard drive for the 450 and making it to a metrotel universal platform who can really use all the potential of this machine, but not compatible on bcm400, and the reason why i was interested to upgrate is for phones capability and to still keep all my keycodes they sell it 15$ on ebay for 64 seat IP or voicemail or what ever, at this cost that is very affordable but the seller said work only till R3.7 but if i upgrade keycode may follow wich can be interesting. I will see what i will do, this is not for business use but for a lab learning on nortel.

Thanks again.
Mike

Don't discount the emetrotel solution just yet because you can't convert a 400. You can do a hardware conversion of that 400 to a 450 so it can be tuned into a digital gateway or you can replace the 400 with BCM50 digital gateway and reuse the DSM modules. That's the beauty of the emetro system.
