What are the differences between all the types of Java? J2EE, Javascript, Java Web Server? Is it all the same thing just different uses?

And more importantly can anyone recommend any books or places to start?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Books to start depends on what your current goal is. Otherwise just in general "Core Java" is a good starting point.

You can read about all the different Java technologies at java.sun.com and javasoft.com.

Javascript has nothing to do with Java

When I was starting out I found the SAMS Teach Yourself books very helpful and well written. They give enough information without being overly "techie". They have books for Java, JSP, JavaScript, and all sorts.

I would recommend the "Teach Yourself in 21 Days" books that the write versus the "Teach Yourself in 24 Hours" books. It covers things in more detail and it is worth the extra read.

I hope that helps!
