Hi,

Can anyone offer a newbie some advice

I need to setup a firewall / vpn device for a small office (20 users. The users would still need Internet access.

I have a manager who wants to start connecting to the network from home, he has ADSL broadband

The network consists of a Win 2k Adv Server which is domain server and file server.

After reading through some posts I was thinking of the Cisco PIX 501, using the Cisco VPN client software on my managers laptop.

The current setup is a Linksys BEFS41, which the cisco unit would replace.

Does anyone have any advice to offer on this unit

Also, does anyone know if the unit comes with the client software or do I need to register with Cisco and download it

Also, does the unit use pre-shared certificates or just username and password

Would my manager be able to access files etc on the server as normal when connecting via the vpn

Sorry for all the questions, but i have never used avpn before

Thanks in advance

I would suggest using a Netopia R9120-XL its simple to set up a vpn tunnel for your boss on that router. I have that router in place in two locations

2. The VPN client is free download but you need to register first.
