What is the preferred title you give a guy who has a 29 yr telecom background and currently administers a large Avaya 6.3 property but has jointly for the past 16 years handled Cisco network admin/design/support. Multiple certifications to boot.

current outdated title: Telecommunications Administrator

appreciate your input

Senior Telecommunications Administrator?

So long as everyone you deal with knows you as the awesome guy who makes the phones work and keeps em working, they could call me the tech janitor for all I care!

I have 36 yrs and they call me Mister Know-it-All

Don't worry, be happy

Silly really, people get hung up on titles! has nothing to do with their knowledge level really

Titles are a funny thing. Unions and corporate structure all play into it. If you work for a small company you can be the regional vice president of telecommunications operations. Megacorp would say otherwise. And then there's levels too right, you can be a telecom admin 1 and they can go up to level 3 with payscales from say 10-20 bananas to 15-25 bananas for a level 3. Wise old man once told me to shoot for the lowest level if its in the pay scale. HR would rather a bunch of level 3's at 15 bananas where they can't get raises through promotions. But if you're a level 1 monkey making 15 bananas, you can get to 17 and 19 bananas with bumps to level 2 and 3.

Maybe swap Administrator for Specialist or Manager, add a senior in front?

Systems Engineer" sounds kinda sexy and androgynous ........ I mean ambiguous.
