I have TS installed on a win 2008 box, I also installed the license server on the same box. It is not a DC.

Ever since then I get this warning that "This license server is not installed on a domain controller. Terminal servers in the domain will not be able to automatically discover this license server."

In attempt to get rid of that message I uninstalled the TS License Manager role and installed on my DC. After which the TS box no longer had any CALs associated with it.

Can someone explain to me how this is supposed to work? IE install the TS Licensing on a DC, install all the CALs on the same DC and then just install Terminal Server on the actual box that is to be used as a TS? Can the TS box be issued CAL's from the DC when a user connects?

Yeah for some reason it wants to be installed on a DC. After installing it on your dc you have to activate it and install your CALs.

I figured it out, installed the license server on the DC and just installed TS on the actual TS server. Installed the CALS on the DC as well.
