Hi Guys,

I have a question about using RAW Disks or not for an IDS 9.3 on Solaris8.
Will Raw Discs the best way or is Cooked Files the preffered solution ?
I know from Oracle in Case of Disk Subsystems that using of RAW-Disc will be not the best way to work.
Did Informix suggest RAW today ?
My second question is the max size of chunks.
Will it be 2 GB or in case of which version it will be possible to use bigger chunksizes ?
Wich IDS / Solaris is neccesary for this.
I need to replan a Prod System in case of worse I/O Performance.
Any suggestion welcome
regards
Uwe

Hi Uwe,

It has always been my experience that IDS will perform better utilising raw disks and I believe that the installation guide recommends raw disk as well (although I could be wrong on that point).

As for the maximum chunk size, according to the following page from IBMs' website with IDS 9.3 you're still stuck with the 2GB chunk limit.

HTH

Cheers,
-gumbie.
