i'm using some miniml(vector-based?) fonts in my movie. how should i set my text options in order for the client to see the fonts and what would be optimal settings to avoid blur(right now they are placed on whole number increments and seem ok). thanks =)

thanks, but i've followed those articles. i'm more concerned with what options should be set in the text options panel. i don't know what settings i should include in order for the client to see the fonts. i currently have mine set to static, with device fonts unchecked. i think this will include only the characters of the font in the text field, but wanted to make sure

if you select device fonts it does not embed the font..what it does is this; say if you use arial, the users system will match that font or come as close as it can to it..this works out handy for taking file size out of your movie..you just have to be careful what font you are using..if you are using some crazy font that you know most people won't have, don't use the device font option..most likely the user will not have that font, there system chooses one for you, screws up your design..if you are using just the sans or serif font in flash and choose device font you will be ok..every system has a default sans and serif..or arial and times..

now as for minimal vector based fonts, i have no idea what that is..but if in fact if it is not a font that would come factory with most pc's or mac, do not select device fonts..use static..you can however make the fon't dynamic and embed the font or the characters you choose in the movie..

hmm...i'm still not clear on if using static embeds ONLY the chars i'm using in the field. miniml is a brand of font, btw

About embedded fonts and device fonts

When you use a font installed on your system in a Flash movie, Flash embeds the font information in the Flash SWF file, ensuring that the font displays properly in the Flash Player. Not all fonts displayed in Flash can be exported with a movie. To verify that a font can be exported, use the View > Antialias Text command to preview the text; jagged type indicates that Flash does not recognize that font's outline and will not export the text.

As an alternative to embedding font information, you can use special fonts in Flash called device fonts. Device fonts are not embedded in the Flash SWF file. Instead, the Flash Player uses whatever font on the local computer most closely resembles the device font. Because device font information is not embedded, using device fonts yields a somewhat smaller Flash movie file size. In addition, device fonts can be sharper and more legible than embedded fonts at small type sizes (below 10 points). However, because device fonts are not embedded, if users do not have a font installed on their system that corresponds to the device font, type may look different than expected on a user's system.

Flash includes three device fonts, named _sans (similar to Helvetica or Arial), _serif (similar to Times Roman), and _typewriter (similar to Courier). To specify a font as a device font, you select one of the Flash device fonts in the Character panel, or select Use Device Fonts in the Text Options panel. You can specify text set in a device font to be selectable, so that users can copy and paste text that appears in your movie. See Using device fonts.

If the above doesn't answer your question... As a matter of fact, what is your question? Worried about file size? Worried the user will see a clear or blurry font? Worried the user won't see your font and that it'll be replaced by something close?

Why don't you post a mockup with all the possible options, and I'll (or we'll) tell you what I (or we) see!
