I have a Merlin Magix with several 100DCD cards at my disposal. We had at one time network several Magix together over point to point T1 through the DCD cards and channelized it our for voice and data. My T1(s) are now gone and I am seeing if I can't still use one of the DCD's to hand off a T1 or PRI connection to a Mitel 3300 PBX being used as a VoIP gateway. I am about to hand off 16 analog ports from this Magix to the Mitel, but if I could do a PRI instead, then that would give me additional lines, CID, DID, etc..

Any thoughts?

Of course the Magix and the 100DCD can do PRI.

I do not know how you would interface that to the Mitel.

If you have time, you could experiment with the various switch types available.

Also, I would advise looking over Avaya's site at the R6.0 Legend Networking guide.

If nothing else, you should be able to emulate E&M Tie lines between these two systems. Won't be fancy, but better than analog...

I'm actually trying to get away from a few MultiTech MultiVoIP gateways I have now. They are older boxes and are starting to give me troubles. Using the Mitel gateway, since my remote sites already have Mitel systems, would negate the need of having anything extra at those sites since the Mitels would just network with each other.

I forwarded the link from "telecomtekperson" to a few friends of mine and hopefully will hear back from them.

Will keep ya'll informed.

Well... I was emphatically told by an engineer at a Avaya service company that it could not be done by a Merlin; could be done by a Definity, but not a Merlin.

I might call another company just to see if I get a matching answer so I'll know for sure.

Wierd. If your P2PT1s are gone and not coming back and you are migrating 16 loop start lines from the magix to the Mitel then why would you need to route from Magix to Mitel via PRI? Why not just convert at TELCO from loop start to PRI then connect directly to your Mitel and put out Mitel sets? I'm thinking its the money for the sets.

I am certian you can do what you are asking with an Asterisk phone server. I have done it twice.... and we are currently running on this configuration. $5 MLX phones beat $100/$500 ip phones any day... at least for the non-power users.

So, I know the signaling works.

The Merlin Legend/Asterisk just thinks that it is communicating with a telco and vice versa.

I know nothing about Mitel, though.

... just words of encouragement.
