O.k., as we all know avaya had Manufactured Discontinued the Magix product as of April. Is it ok now to talk about the monitor function?? I had a sticky situation today where a MWI would not go out on a Magix R3 on an Tip/ring station port. I went into monitor and saw the Magix thought the MWI was out, using the TM command. My question is this, can I use the TM command if a message was left by a user and not a VM station port? The only way I could erase the MWI was through the VM command. I even did the Clear MWI through SPM..nothing..and there was no way to tell where the lamp came from being a single line phone. Thanks in advance.

It was probably a message left by an extention or the operator - not the voicemail. Clearing or refreshing MW lights via SPM - only affects Voicemail messages - not the ones left by another extention. You have to delete the message light manually at the phone by choosing delete message.

Well, maybe yes, maybe no. When I went into monitor to check her MWI status using the TM command, it said it was off. Yet, her MWI still blinked away on her 8110 phone. I did go to all 3 operators and check the Msg waiting status on their DSS Consoles. I found nothing there. The only way I could clear the MSG waiting light was to go into monitor and use the VM msgclear command....or whatever it was. My only issue with that was it turned out ALL of the Msg waiting lamps. I had to manually light all the lamps again with my butt set. If I had a Merlin Msg, there would be no way I could have done that. I was just wondering if anyone has played around with monitor to find a way to see who has left a msg waiting lamp on an Ext if it wasn't a VM port.

After 18 years of troubleshooting, I have a habit of grabbing the sledgehammer to kill a fly. I agree that the Monitor function is very cool in revealing the underbelly of the switch. However, it might not appropriate to use in chasing a MWL issue. But I'm still with you, 'cause I like doing things the hard way.

Anyway, there are a number of other reasons why the message lamp was lit. Had you considered that the station was a Message Waiting Receiver for a Calling Group or Fax Extension?

I haven't used Monitor to look at the MWL status, but I am aware of several vm_dump parameters related to this function. We're instructed to use the "vm_dump mwclear" in the case of corruption, which is what I suspect you used. I probably would have tried "vm_dump mwle" before pulling out the BFG 9000 to kill all those lamps.

You also mentioned a "TM command" in your post. Is that what you used to see if the switch thought the MWL was on or not? I know that "TM_Dump mail" tells you about (what in AUDIX was known as) Leave Word Calling. These types of messages are what tdaugirdas was talking about. Unfortunately, I don't know if the command offers any data about triggers from Call Groups and Fax Extensions.

Lastly, you hinted that you may not have Merlin Messaging. What's the skinny on that? Because there are commands to monitor the mode codes sent!
