I'm using Windows 2003 Server w/Exchange and we hit our limit yesterday and everyones outlook shutdown. We found on microsofts website that we had to get into the registry and up the GB to 1.

Correct me if i'm wrong. My company has some people that don't work for the company anymore that still have email boxes found in the System Manager i deleted the mailboxes from there and active directory. but the 2 files still have huge file sizes: priv1.edb (10,368,196,608 bytes) and priv1.stm (6,813,655,040 bytes).

Are we doing this right or is there another step to take? Thanks!

I would install Exchange 2003 SP2

It takes the 16gig limit up to 75gigs

You need to do an offline defrag to recapture the space from the deleted mailboxes.

I would also recommend installing SP2. When you install it, it automatically ups the limit to 18GB. If you want to go above that (up to 75GB) you need to edit the system registry.

Refer to my FAQ faq955-5581 for how to do the offline defrag.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
