hi everyone,
I have installed the 10g db and the client tools onto a Windows server and everything seemed to be working fine.
Now the consultant who plans to install the 3rd party application on the server says the client tools should not be installed alongside the database. He has asked me to remove the client, saying it may cause issues and the system or users may pick up the wrong tnsnames.ora file (Apparently there is a tnsnames file in the client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN path as well as one in db_1\NETWORK\ADMIN.
I've worked with several databases (SQL Server and others) and we usually installed the client tools on the database server.
I'm new to Oracle - is it common to not install the client tools ? What do you do at your company?
Thanks, John
