I'm running Informatica 7.1 right now, does anyone know if backing up the repository would kick or lock off users for that repository while the process of backing up is taking place?

I think it is the other way around. You must be sure to kick out users in any case before performing a backup, making sure to release any locks ...

I've seen repository backups being taken while the users are still logged in. It does not complain and the backup completes successfully. What kind of problems could you encounter in this case?

Yeah I just ran a repository backup this past Friday with users still logged in, went through without a hitch although I don't know if there will be any consistency problems with data or anything of that sort. I'm assuming that Informatica will backup all *last saved* files, so that the files currently open will be backed up in the next cycle.

In our documentation we go by here at my job, if the user is in an "Execute" it will kick the user off when the backup is run. If the user is in a "In-Use" or "Write-Intent" the backup will run fine and the user will see nothing. We just upgraded to 7.1.2 so I'm not sure if the rules changed or not but we still follow the same procedures.

Hope this helps.
