Question about removing a portion of an image 2

I have a solution, but it sould not require that you delete/cut anything. I would create a path that represented the bottoma section of the V, that I assume you are trying to represent is fitting inside of the rings. To make the shape you want you could use Pathfinder located under Window. This new shape would sit on top of the items you wanted to cut. Also you can do other things depending on which version you have. If you have CS2 you have a lot more flexibility with filling sections of paths.

Other options are to delete strategic points on the paths.

Hope that helps.

I've just discovered the pathfinder tool... which is really useful. I used it for my last project, so for this I tried all of the 'effects' and they don't seem to do anything (I have the 'V' and the 'swirls' selected).

I'm using CS2, if you know how I could achieve this. Thanks

Well you need to create outlines of your letter and make sure that it is released from the compound path. Right clicking should allow you to do all of those options. Once that is complete Pathfinder will work. Try the divide feature and then ungroup (also by right click). See if that works. :)

(A zipped Illustrator CS File)

I did this one by working in outline mode and making some cuts right where the ellipse paths cross the V, then re-connecting the ends with the pen tool.

PS if you can't figure out how to do it, you'll at least have a ready-made vector file.
