Ok--I know that there isn't really one answer to this, but approximately, how many sites with a certain PR will I need to get to link to me before I can get a PR of 5? I've been at four forever, and although I was originally impressed, it seems like every real site has more than that. It seems that 5 is for the most part the minimum for any site with dmoz linking to it (is that why I'm still at 4?), and lots are a lot higher. I have 16 backwards links with PR's of 4 or more and another 200 internal links, but I'm still stuck at 4. Shouldn't I be close to bumping up to 5? I know there's no precise answer--get x links with a pr of y and you'll get it--but does anyone know *about* what I still need? I think that my pages are optimized well.

I'm just kind of wondering--did Tek-Tips somehow figure out a way to make external links from their site not count? I mean, if I search Google for "ristmo" on Tek-Tips only, I have 155 results, and and they all contain links to my page, but Google doesn't list those pages under my backwards links for any of my sites! Isn't that strange?

Ok-on a fun note-If you search Google for "Arab Church", the first two results are my site, and another 4 out of the top ten are merely sites linking to mine! Don't you just love it when that happens?

Hi Ristmo,

I think I may have a solution for you.

Firstly, a great help to pr is internal links (links within your site pointing to other pages on your site)
On your why us page, why not break that up into a couple of new pages (more pages for google to crawl.

Back to your first question.
Why don't you have an index page? I noticed that on all your sub-pages, the 'home' link is pointing to home.php, why isn't it pointing to your domain?

I also noticed that your sub pages also have a pr of 4.
Normally sub-pages have a lesser value than the main page.
I think you're just inches away from the 5.
I have a feeling that making all your sub pages point to your domain name might be enough.

Hey!

Thanks for the reply. I'll certainly try that, but it seems as if you were reviewing my website. Do you mean that that site is that close? Because the site I was referring to (sorry for not specifying in the first post) was RISTMO Designs has about 16 links total, internal and external....no wait! I forgot :-D I have all the pages at Arab Church linking to RISTMO Designs ;-). For some reason I guess I was thinking that Arab Church should be ranking a lot higher than RISTMO Designs, but I guess that it should be the opposite, shouldn't it? It seems strange, though, that Arab Church's subsections have a lower PR than the index when RISTMO Designs's doesn't, doesn't it? I mean, besides my two sites, almost all the other backwards links I have go to Arab Church, not RISTMO Designs. Anyway, I will implement your suggestion and see if it helps.

Thanks!
Rick

hi

yes, sorry, I was referring to I just assumed.
however, could use some links pointing to the home page as well.

also, I just noticed that you put the home links.
I think you should point them to instead of )just like the link from arabchurch.
otherwise the engines will think it is 2 different pages.

I changed those home links like you said. I will try to expand that why us page later on....But...I'm just wondering. Is perhaps the reason they all have the same PR is that they're all on the same level? Because I always notice a difference when they're in a subdirectory, but when they're on the main level, I'm not so sure....

hmmm,
pages on the same level ?
that's an interesting thought. I suppose it's possible.
I'll investigate that on some of my sites.

However, recently I've been a little dis-enchanted with pr and all the hype it seems to bring.

so often I do searches only to find lesser pr sites come up above higher pr sites. Supposedly pr is 1 out of over a 100 pieces of criteria for generating a top listing.
I tend to not pay quite as much attention to it.

(just thinking aloud)
