Hello everybody,

as you can imagine, i have a little problem.

We have lost the root password of one of our partitions (logical machine).

I already know how to change the root password by booting with the installtion cdrom but how does it work to boot on the CDROM being connected on the partition with the console (via the HMC).
Will it work as a standalone machine, booting on the cdrom by pressing the 5 key or is there something else we need to do???

Hi,

it will work like a standalone machine, in our case we must press <ESC> and than <5> with the serial connection from the HMC.
You can also create an new profile for this lpar with SMS flag in the "other" tab. Then you can start the Partition with the SMS menue and you can select the bootdevice.

Hope it will help you

Michael

if you have CDROM installed in ragatta box you can dynamically add it to desired LPAR profile and boot LPAR from the installation CD..

if you have no CDROM in your regatta box then you can boot system in maintenance using NIM server...

Thanks for your answers.

I have a cdrom installed in my regatta box... How do i dynamically add it to the desired LPAR?
It seems that i need to alocate the scsi board, the one on wich the cdrom is connected, from one partition to the other in order to be able to boot on the cdrom drive...

Am i right? And how do i do it?

You can also create a "diag" profile and boot from that.

To Dynamically add the CD-Rom to the desired LPAR you will need a few things, 1. is to be running 5.2 on both of the LPAR's 2. Have a ethernet port from each LPAR that can communicate with the HMC... With that in place then you will be able to perform dynamic allocations on the fly via HMC...

Otherwise to simplify it you will have to add it into the profile of the desired LPAR and perform a Hard Reset , first after deallocating it from the LPAR it is currently attached to.
