I'm pretty new to Flash, so please bear with me. :)

I'd like to figure out how to control the dimensions of my flash movie when it appears on the browser. I was told this can be achieved under "publish settings" but as much as I've played in there it doesn't seem to change anything. Right now it scales itself to fit the screen on the top and bottom, but not on the sides, and this causes a lot of the artwork to bleed and it doesn't look so hot. I'd like to know how to
A. make it fit the screen on both sides...
and/or
B. make it stay at the dimension I set it at, with a border around the edges so the artwork doesn't bleed.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Also, what's the largest recommended resolution for flash movies? I don't want to make it too big for people to view with a low resolution.

Thanks in advance.

under File/publish settings make sure the HTML option is checked and then click on the HTML tab at the top. Here you will be able to set the movie to actual movie size or to a percentage like 100% by 100%.

You can also set whether it is centered or not horizontally.

The optimum size would be 800x600. For a Flash movie I normally go with 760x420 to allow room for the top toolbar and such. Ya' Gotta Love It!

its not realy resolution, vector grafix can change size and look just as good, as long as the machine runing it can handle such a huge grafic. but i recomend keeping the size small, because the big size can make it lag alot, i usualy stick to the default size, unless, i wan't it a diff shape. not knowing is an excuse for those umwilling to lern -- John Rueben

Yea, you always get the 'scan line' effect if your moving such big things...for some reason because it's redrawing...weird, but true...I hate it...I almost wish Flash was a lot bigger but incorporated some better redraw techniques...because in VB with Dx8 I can do the same stuff a LOT smoother, with no scanline effect and so forth...lol...but it just takes me months on end rather than a couple hours...=P Regards,

Thanks everyone for your time and advice.

I'm still having a bit of trouble. It fits the screen when you first open it, but then if you resize the browser that's when it gets messed up and the artwork bleeds.

Is there a way I can make the flash files stay at the set size without scaling itself and just have a border around it to prevent bleeding?

the instructions above in my first post will maintain your movie at it size without stretching to fit the screen. Ya' Gotta Love It!

guys try this..

<BODY bgcolor=&quot;#000000&quot; MARGINHEIGHT=&quot;0&quot; MARGINWIDTH=&quot;0&quot; TOPMARGIN=&quot;0&quot; BOTTOMMARGIN=&quot;0&quot; LEFTMARGIN=&quot;0&quot; RIGHTMARGIN=&quot;0&quot; SCROLL=&quot;NO&quot;>

put that in your html code in the body tag..also make sure you have set deminsions of the movie to percents (100%)...

TulsaJeff, I did exactly what you said, both set at actual movie size and then at percentage, but all with the same results.

Thanks virt, I'll try your idea as well.
