Hi,
We need to add users to our callpilot ver 4 and our dealer says we must upgrade the unit because Avaya won't sell anymore user licenses to our current system. $12,500 for new voice mail ! They suggested we go to ip office IP500 we have about 50 users and will probably add about 10 people in the next year.they spec'd out 9608 and some 9630g phones. God , they look ugly ! we have a few 1140 and 1230's from the nortel switch. i I assume we can use them (with a firmware change to sip i guess). what other phone will work with the IP Office ? the 5600 series the 4600 ? Is Avaya going to keep the 1100 series or the 1200 series in production.

you guys a way more plugged in to this than I am !!
Thanks for indulging me
Jeff

Here is a list of all phones supported, I very much doubt they will continue to make the 110/1200 series that's if they havent stopped already :)

Hi Amriddle,

You are very anti Nortel or anything Nortel related aren't you?

I have friends at Avaya in Ottawa, they have told me there NO PLANS to discontinue the 11xx and 12xx phones buddy, sorry I know you were hoping for that. Avaya actually continues to develop and refine the CS1000 and the Nortel 11xx and 12xx phones as they are the key component to that system.

In fact, the CS1000 was one of the very reasons Avaya acquired Nortel Enterprise, it's considered a solid robust carrier grade switch, and they have no plans to get rid of it.

Come on, let's be real here, I'd much rather have an 11xx series phone on my desk than that "board like" Avaya IP 96XX phone. Have you felt the handset on those things, they are like a feather, while the Nortel phones are solid and robust.

The fact is that the Avaya phones are made for the IPO and CM and the 1100/1200 are reprogrammed so these phones will never ever be as good as they where on the Nortel.

PS ditch the pain that you have after Avaya bought Nortel, it wont help you at all'.
We can't help it.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Gordon, we used to sell Nortel before Avaya, we were very glad to change. No I don't like them and I don't like the way they work, but I do think those handsets look better (it isn't hard to look better than an Avaya handset). If those handsets worked as well as an Avaya one does on the IP ofiice I wouldn't mind using one either..but they don't and they aren't labelled well.

As for the lightweight Avaya handset and quality feeling Notel handset, try opening one up...there is a large lump of metal glued into it...to give it that quality feel, it's only a small speaker and mic other than that, same as the Avaya one :)

WOW,
Didn't Mean to Start the the Phone wars !
We're going all to IP Phones So I guess that limits the choices.
Gordon , you're right the 9600's feel like the are made of cardboard, in fact that's what one of my users said!
I'm not sure they will hold up to our users !

Amriddle, what doesn't work on 1100/1200 phones when connected to an IP Office 500v2.
They may only have a piece of metal in the handset but, it feels better in the hand. Sometime user perception matter matters more than a crappy speaker

Thanks again
Jeff
