I am looking for an inexpensive way to distribute some reports over a web application. I've looked into crystal reports, but the pricing seems to be high for what we need. I've thought about using datagrid templates, but i don't have a ton of time to learn them well enough, customize them, and get new requests from users. I did some searching and have come across ActiveReports.NET. I don't use VS.NET, i use homesite for the most part. I do have VB.NET installed on a PC in which i've created some .rpx files and have gotten them to work in that VB.NET solution. I realize i probably won't get away from creating the reports in VB.NET, but i want to do the coding in homesite...IE, bind the activereports viewer control to that .rpx file. I've found no tutorials online for this and was wondering if anyone had suggestions.

Also, are there any other easy ways to create reports in asp.net? I've done some eval testing w/ crystal and must say, it integrates VERY nicely...but again, it seems pricey for what we need it for.

Thanks for any suggestions.

We use Active Reports for VB6 here, and we like it a lot. Crystal Reports is a ripoff on their pricing.

I intend to get the .NET version of Active Reports, but I got a version of Crystal Reports in my Visual Studio 2003 package. I may mess with that first.

Anyone fooled around with it?
