In the world outside of SharePoint, I can use MS Query, via Data > Get External Data... to query data either in the active workbook. However the only PATH available, seems to be OUTSIDE of SharePoint rather than the path to the workbook in SharePoint which is something like...

Report Needs

Is this possible in the SharePoint world?

"...query data either in the active workbook..."

I am IN Excel, querying a sheet WITHIN the workbook. Do it often, outside the SharePoint workd.

Here's the deal. I have many workbooks on the network that interactively grab data, via queries of various types, many of which grab data from other internal sheets in the workbook, and perform analysis and reporting in VBA. It's a black box to the user: they open a workbook and operate some controls and stuff happens.

I've done some research and found an 'overveiw of connecting (importing) data - Excel - Office.com' In it is shows Excel data object and data source support that creates an External Data Range for SharePoint List...

But I have not discovered a way to implement as yet WITHIN SharePoint in Excel, as each method seems to only have \\\ paths rather than /// paths.

I got it to work.

Created a new spreadsheet.
Created two columns and populated them with a few values.
Selected the data, right clicks and selected Define Name...
Saved spreadsheet.
Moved the spreadsheet to my SharePoint library.
Mapped a Drive to the SharePoint library.
Opened Excel, from the Data tab selected From Other Sources, then selected From Microsoft Query.
Selected my newly mapped drive.
Then selected my uploaded spreadsheet.
Selected my defined Range.

*not sure if you need to map the drive or not, but it worked.*
*i'm using Office 2010.*

Thank you, I will try this as soon as I am able. Stand by!
