I have 800 records with a socila security number. The person who designed the table made this a text field and included the dash character as part of the data. I would like to change this field to a number field and eliminate the dash. ie go from a ###-##-#### to a #########

Any suggestions? I was thinging of an update query but can't find how to remove the dash.

I would warn against this. I might change the field to remove the dashes, but if you make it a number field, you will have to worry about handling leading zeroes (0) when printing and displaying.

Ever notice that by the time that you realize that you ran a truncate script on the wrong instance, it is too late to stop it?
