Query - sum volumes by month

Hi there,

Need some help in designing an append query, I have a transaction table that has beed imported every month. I'd like to sum up the volumes by form used and month/year for example:

Form Transaction Month Volume
12345 August 2004 1,205,200

I was trying = Transaction Month: Format$(

.[field],'mmm yyy') but it's giving a compile error.

The intent is trying to have the least transaction lines in my DB to used up the least space.

Otherwise I'll leave it summed by date of trans. then create another query to summarize the volumes.

Let me know if you have a simpler approach to my problem.
