Query SQL data in Internet Explorer 1

In sql 2000 one was able to query data using internet explorer.
What was the syntax to do this(or where can I find documentation on it)?
Am I able to achieve the same thing using SQL 2005?
 
I wanted to add more to that....


It was several years ago ( at a previous job) when I did this and I cannot remember how it was done. I do remember that the data was returned in xml format though.

I only want to use it for testing a connection on a mobile device. I wouldn't use it either for anything in production.
