Query re upgrade of Domino Directory

Hi all!

I am currently planning to upgrade our Domino 6.5.5 messaging server to ver 7.01 I've read in the IBM documentation that it is recommended to upgrade first the Domino Directory prior to installing Domino 7.
Must I do it in this order? And where am I going to get the Domino Directory R7 template from? All I have is an executable of the Domino 7.0.1 installation package.
One other thing, can't I just run the installation and then choose to upgrade the Domino Directory when asked to during the server restart process?

We just upgraded from 6.5.4 to 7.0.1 2 weeks ago on both iSeries and a Windows platform. We have a hub and spoke concept with one masterserver. We ran the installation process first. Then we restarted the servers - when we restarted the master server the software asked whether we would like to replace the design of the Domino Directory and we said yes. Then we replicated the names.nsf to the other servers so they had the design.
During all the years we have been working with Notes (7 now) we have never upgraded the design of the Domino Directory before the installation of the software. I don't know why IBM recommended it.
