Query Output vs Report Output - Sorting

I am now TOTALLY confused and befuddled!

I have a query that links two tables. The output is sorted on:
(1)Employee section
(2)Employee Last Name
(3)Employee First Name
(4)Employee Middle Initial
The intent is to produce an alphabetical listing of employees by section, and print one page per section.

The output of the query is displayed in the above sort; HOWEVER, when I do a report based on the query the sorting is lost. The output of the report is by section (taht part is okay), but the alphabetical sorting of the name is lost.

Any ideas as to why?

Check the Sorting and Grouping in the report's design view. It will override the query sort I believe.

"View", "Sorting and Grouping"

Okay, I still don't understand it, but I just tossed the report I was trying to do and used the report wizard. It did what I wanted it to do.

But the question remains, why didn't it work before? The only grouping or sorting options was for the sections. I depended on the query to do the rest.

Oh well. The more I learn - the less I know.

Hi,
In the Sorting and Grouping section, you also need to add the next level to be sorted (which would be "last name" and "first name", even though you won't be printing any group headers or footers).
Yes, it is very peculiar that all the sorting being done in the query is lost when it gets to the report. I wish some Microsoft employee can explain why this is happening.
