I have a fairly interesting problem to predict the outcome of....

my companies exchange organisation - org-x has 4 sites;
sites A, B, C and D

Sites A and B are based in the States and were created as the first sites when the organisation was set up. The public folder tree originates from a server on one of these sites.

I am based in the UK and look after Sites C and D which were created later.

Whole organisation is Exchange 5.5, there are 9 servers in total within sites C and D with over 3000 clients.

Our parent company in the States is switching to Notes and wants to turn off their entire Exchange infrastructure within 2 months.

My question is what will happen if sites A and B go offline? And what can I do about it in the meantime to preserve my exchange sites C and D.

We have our own IMC in sites C and D and site connectors linking C and D together so we are pretty much self contained. We're also not bothered about internal mail from sites A and B as that will travel via internet in the future.

Is the way forward going to be as simple as changing the 'first site server' from a server in sites A or B to a server in site C? Or is there a more significant server which defines the Exchange organisation? Is it feasible
to transplant our sites to a new organisation? Or is the exchange organisation structure replicated down to all sites so sites can go off line permanently without any side effects?

Any thoughts, comments, useful web URL's gratefully received.

Many thanks
