how can I make a query to run only if I push a button not when the I open the tab control?

It is hard to say. The query must be used somewhere on the form to make it run. Where are you using this query?

Are you displaying the results on the tab control in a sub form?

If so have the subform invisible in the onload event of the form containing the tab. Run the query in the onclick event of the button, requery the sub form and make it visible.
