hi i have a table with lots of fields but we need to know about 3 only
item number:tx Date: program numbers

select query = tx Date <31/12/2002

I then want to change to an update query and
delete any information in tx Date field and program number field

eg end result blank field
how do I specify it
thanks

ok - if I need two - what are the update to: criteria

program numbers is a text field - I want it cleared eg do I use "" or do I use ?????
tx date is a date field - I want it cleared eg do I use "null" or do I use ?????

I have tried some but am getting no result

thanks

You can use "" for your string and null for the date as long as 'required' is not set to yes.

What does your query look like and what isn't working?

ok select query <31/12/2002
I got 251 entries

neither fields are set to required

then as I said I thought my next step would be to change to an update query

ok 1st update - leave criteria as 31/12/2002 in tx date and update field program numbers to empty which I did with "" but I get cant update due to a validation rule violation ??

thanks

Is this field associated with any other tables via a relationship??

thanks Transcend - it was to do with an input query - if I added a space in between the strings I was fine. cheers
