I have a database which is used for IT helpdesk call logging. There are many tables but I am only interested in three, problem, change and contact details (used for analyst info).

I need to write a report that looks at active (open) calls in each problem and change table, counts them and displays the results on a single front page. I then want to be able to use drill down to show call details.

As the problem and change tables are different, does this mean I have to use sub reports or is there another way?

Many thanks

I have had as many as 8 tables in the same report without using subreports.

The real question of weather a subreport is needed or not depends upon what you are trying to do and the structure of your tables.

i am thinking that if there is a chance that a problem is logged, but there is no change or details listed for it yet, then you will need to put the change and details in a subreport that is linked by the problem - that way every problem will be listed even if nothing has been done with it as of yet...

if there is no chance of there being a null field i dont think it would matter, but i can have a screen full of data one second, and as soon as i add a field to the page that has any null listings, the data goes away...

i have gotten to where i do a lot of subreports just to check myself... that way it is obvious that something is missing data... without the subreport that entry may have just not been printed...

good luck...

I have done similar reports for Helpdesk call logging in the past and have always had to use subreports, as there is very rarely ANY link between a problem and a change.
