queries that show records that DON'T match the criteria

i have a table of details about equipment

i have a table of details about dates which particular pieces of equipment are booked out.

i have a query which tells me when equipment is NOT available on a particular date.

i need a query to show me which equipment that IS available on a particular date.

Let Ms. Access showyou how to do this. There is an "Unmatched Query Wizzard". Use it. Examine the query after it (the Wizzard) has done it.
